Introduction to volunteering with the Heart of England Forest - July 2024
Wednesday 10 July, 18:30 - 19:15

If you are interested in volunteering with the Heart of England Forest, helping us establish and protect a huge new forest for the environment, people and wildlife – why not join us to find out more.

This informal event will be led by a member of the team and a volunteer leader. You’ll have the opportunity to hear more about the volunteer programme, and what you can expect from volunteering with the charity. There will be opportunity to ask questions and we’ll update you on the current priorities and opportunities across the Forest.

Our amazing volunteers help us with all aspects of creating and managing the Forest, including tree planting, wildlife surveying and events.

Guided Walk: Wildlife Wonder in the Heart of England Forest at Honeybourne
Saturday 13 July, 08:00 - 09:30

Join Assistant Ranger Katherine on this Saturday morning wildlife walk around Blenheim, Honeybourne, an area of the Forest not accessible to the public. This 1.5 hour walk will take you across this wonderfully peaceful and undisturbed home for a variety of woodland, grassland and wetland wildlife. We hope to see plenty of the butterflies, dragonflies, Hare and Roe Deer that call this tranquil area of the Forest home.

Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Due to the wildlife focus, this event is not suitable for dogs and places are limited.

Guided Walk: Purple Emperors in the Heart of England Forest
Sunday 14 July, 13:00 - 15:00

Join resident expert and biodiversity team member Sam for a walk around the new woodland and hilltops around Middle Spernal Farm to watch Purple Emperor butterflies fighting on territories and hopefully even a female flying through one of the sallow groves. Learn about why Purple Emperors have an excellent population here and how to find them elsewhere.

This walk will take you across seldom walked routes, so sturdy shoes or boots and weather appropriate clothing to protect arms and legs are ideal. Well behaved dogs are welcome on this walk but must be kept on a lead at all times.

Wonderful Woodland Cyanotype Workshop
Saturday 20 July, 10:00 - 15:00

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process which produces a beautiful deep blue print. This introductory session will show you how to create your own artwork using this fascinating, easy to use process. The workshop will start with a relaxing mindful walk in our beautiful forest to collect natural materials with interesting shapes to use in our prints. We will then return to base (either outdoor or indoor depending on the weather conditions) to use the material to construct a cyanotype print.

All the materials are included in the price. At the end of the session, you will be able to take home your finished print. Tea/coffee/biscuits will be provided, however, we also encourage you to bring your own packed lunch as this is full day workshop.
