Have you ever looked at a map and wondered which way up it is supposed to be? Would you like to be more confident in planning your own walks in the countryside? Yes? Then this workshop might just be for you.
At The Heart of England Forest’s beautiful Middle Spernal site, members of the charity’s Learning and Skills team will introduce you to the techniques of comparing map to ground so that you can find your way using both an Ordnance Survey Map and an orienteering map. We will also look at using a compass to effectively orientate your map to aid navigation.
Join Rupert Loch on this one day bushcraft fire lighting course which will cover the science of fire and the practical application of how to create it.
Please note that due to the nature of this course, we don't feel its suitable to under 16 year olds. Under 18's must be accompanied by a participating adult. All workshop materials/equipment and tea/coffee/biscuits are included in the price. Please bring your own lunch.
A volunteering and adventure club for young people aged 12-18. Our Young Foresters have many adventures in the Forest, as well as taking part in a number of forestry and conservation tasks. The club runs on the fourth Saturday of every month.
The Heart of England Forest site Gorcott Hill is a beautiful 62 acre site near Redditch. The site contains semi-natural woodland, hedgerows, grassland and ponds, as well as a vast array of wildlife.
Mini Foresters is our monthly club in the Forest where children can enjoy activities in our wonderful woodland at Gorcott Hill . Each month the activities will change and reflect the seasons, the flora and fauna and the history and geography of the area. Come and join us for fires, dens, tool use, bushcraft skills, wildlife and the odd toasted marshmallow,
The group is intended for families with children between the ages 4-11 and runs on the last Saturday of every month all year round. Our entry ticket includes up to 5 people, at least one of whom is an adult responsible for the group.
Do you know your cumulus from your cirrus? When swallows fly high, it will be dry! is this true? Come along for a stroll whilst we look at cloud formations and talk about weather folklore a subject close to everyone’s heart who lives in this lush and green country.

Join Avery for a morning walk through Middle Spernal to find out what invertebrates we can find throughout the Forest. You will be taking a relaxing walk through a variety of areas both with public rights of way and with no public access including established woodland, grassland, new plantation, and ponds, seeking out any insects that use these habitats we create and protect. Discover a wide range of invertebrates, from the 24-spot ladybird, to the 6-spot burnet moth.
Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Due to the wildlife focus, this event is not suitable for dogs and places are limited.

Young Foresters is a volunteering and adventure club for young people aged 12-18. Our Young Foresters have many adventures in the Forest as well as taking part in a number of forestry and conservation tasks: take action to combat climate change, benefit from spending time outdoors, improve your physical and mental health, forge new friendships and gain valuable work experience.
The young people attend independently supported by our experienced staff.

Come and join us for fires, dens, tool use, bushcraft skills, wildlife and the odd toasted marshmallow.
Our entry ticket includes up to five people, at least one of whom is an adult responsible for the group. We only have a limited number of tickets available as we want to ensure everyone has the best experience of the Forest.
